✨ Start the New Year Strong: A Vision + Action Board Lesson

Start the new year by helping your students do more than just dream — help them reflect, reset, and glow up with purpose. The Vision + Action board lesson is an upgraded vision board lesson designed to empower students to visualize their future, connect their goals to their career, and commit to real actions they will take to become their best selves.

This activity blends creativity with self-growth, career planning, affirmations, and reflection. Students will create a modern digital vision board that represents not only what they want in life, but who they are becoming and how they plan to get there.

This lesson is perfect for the beginning of a new year, new semester, or anytime your classroom needs a mindset reset and motivational boost.

this year, we’re taking it a step further…

🌟 Vision + Action board activity

This is a digital project. Students will design a multi-slide or sectioned vision board that includes:

  1. My Vision – What I want in life and career

  2. My Glow Up Plan – Action steps and goals

  3. Who I’m Becoming – Mindset & personal growth

  4. My Affirmations – Words I will speak over myself today’s world, students don’t just need to dream — they need to learn how to connect their dreams to real action steps. So instead of a traditional vision board, students will create a Vision + Action Board that includes:

This simple twist helps students understand that success doesn’t just happen — it’s built through daily choices.

💻 Digital Vision Boards (Teacher-Friendly!)

I allow my students to create online vision boards because they are:
✔️ Easier
✔️ Faster
✔️ Inexpensive
✔️ Less messy
✔️ Simple to submit digitally

Students can use tools like:

  • Google Slides

  • Canva

  • PowerPoint

If you prefer physical vision boards, you can absolutely still use this lesson! Just apply the same guidelines using magazines, poster boards, and glue.

📝 Lesson Procedures

🔹 Step 1: Reflect Before the Glow Up

Begin with a short class discussion or journaling using prompts such as:

  • What held you back last year?

  • What is one habit you want to leave behind?

  • What do you want more of this year?

🔹 Step 2: Introduce Vision + Action

Explain to students:

“This isn’t just about making something cute. This is about designing the life you want — and the actions you’ll take to get there.”

Review the four sections of their Glow Up Board and expectations.

🔹 Step 3: Create the Digital Glow Up Board

Students will design their board to include the following (Refer to the slide presentation below).

🔹 Step 4: Glow Up Share

Once boards are complete, allow students to share in one of the following ways:

  • Small group share

  • Gallery walk (project boards)

  • 60-second “Glow Up Pitch”

“This year, I am committed to becoming…”
