Cosmetology Student Team building activity 1:

The beginning of the school year is the BEST time to set a positive atmosphere for your classroom! Students enjoy being in a classroom environment where they feel welcomed and a part of a team!!!

My partner and I have our students create what we call a “Cosmetology Creed” (basically a short speech) to say at the start of each day!

Cosmetology Creed Activity

Divide your students into small groups! Each group should be given 15 minutes (just an estimate) to create a short 5-8 sentence creed about cosmetology! The creed should include positive things about reaching their goal of completing hours, getting licensed, becoming a cosmetologist, etc. (Provide an example to help give them direction) Once everyone is done allow each group to present their creeds!

At this point you can either choose to allow the class to pick sentences from each groups creed to create the finalized classroom creed, or you may choose to put the finalized creed together yourself.

CONVERSATION- Level 2-(Group conversation)

HELP- Your creative brains and your teammates, If you need my help you may raise your hand for assistance.

ACTIVITY-  Using google docs, create a 5 sentence class creed for us to say at the start of each class to set the tone for the day.  Your creed should include things about completing your hour goal, passing your test, and becoming a cosmetologist, etc.

MOVEMENT- No movement,  Please remain at your seat working actively with your team

PARTICIPATION- Everyone must participate and give input

Time keeper- Keeps track of time remaining for activity

Recorder- Types Creed on google doc

Presenter - Presents creed to class

Manager- Make sure team stays on task

SUCCESS- Upon completion, proofread your creed for grammatical errors and email it with your teacher. Be prepared to present to your classmates.

When the creed is finalized, we post it in our classroom so it is always visible. Each day at the start of class immediately before reviewing the bell ringer (1st assignment of the day) we all stand and say our Cosmetology Creed together to set the tone for the day!! We never miss a day! It really does help unite our team and gives the students a sense of belonging! Try it out and tell me what you think!!!
