4 fun student introduction activities for the start of the school year

what kind of introduction activities do you implement in your classroom at the start of the year to get to know your students and start uniting your classroom? i have included some of the fun and engaging activities that i like to start the year with below!

Activity 1: name plate activity

This activity is one of the first ones i like to do! Have your students to create a name plate to set on their desk. this will help you as well as the other students to start to remember names!

below are the student expectations that should be posted on your board for your students to view.

once the timer goes off, have each student to stand, introduce themselves, and share at least 1 thing that represents them.

I even start the introductions off with presenting my own name plate! (my name plate example below)

activity 2: name game

this engaging activity will get your students out of their seats! Have your students to stand and form a circle around the classroom. tell them to think of an adjective that describes them and starts with the first letter of their name. for example, i like to use “sassy smith!” once every one has thought of their adjective, start the game by introducing yourself. say “I’m sassy smith” and then allow the person standing next to you to introduce you, and then themselves. They would say “she is sassy smith and I am Amazing Ashley.” The person next to them will then introduce you, the person before them, and then themselves. each time the next person goes they will start over with you working their way back around the circle and then finally introducing themselves. this process will continue until it finally gets back to you, leaving you to finally name each student in your class.

This keeps you and your students actively involved and listening, while learning each others names!

activity 3: all about me-

this next activity i like is a simple “all about me” that your students can do independently and will help allow you to learn more about them. you may include questions about your students favorite snacks or favorite color to have a reference for rewards later! you may also ask about what cosmetology subjects they are anxious to learn. be sure to include a question about your students preferred learning style to help guide your lesson activity choices. add any other questions that you find suitable (example provided below)

Once all student forms are complete, choose 2-4 questions that each student will stand up and share with the class.

Activity 4: this or that game

this is a really fun game that gets the students up and moving! create a list of “this or that” questions that the students can choose from. for example, ask a questions like “do you prefer to do hair or nails?” or “do you prefer Breakfast or lunch?”. have the students to move to one side of the classroom or the other depending on their answers!

i hope you can implement at least 1 of these fun activities into your classrooms! let me know what you think!?❤️❤️
