dream poster activity

try this activity in your classroom at the start of the school year to motivate your students and set a positive tone for your class!

dream big!!!

All teachers like to start the beginning of the school year getting to know their students while also setting a positive tone and teaching classroom procedures and expectations. This is a short activity that I like to do with my students to get them thinking about their dreams and the importance of following their dreams no matter what!

I like to start by playing a short motivational video! I play this one, but of course play whichever one speaks to your heart!

I direct the students to write down the parts of the video that stand out to them!

Once the video is over, I conduct a classroom discussion.

I always ask:

  1. Why do you think I showed you this video?

    2. What are some things that stood out to you while watching this video?

    3. Why is it so important that you chase your dreams?

Once we’ve conducted the discussion about the things that stood out to them and the importance of chasing their dreams I then have them to either work independently or with a partner to create their own 5-8 sentence dream speech! The speech must be an encouraging speech that covers chasing and reaching their dreams.

Once they have created their speeches, I have them to design a Dream Poster. The posters must be neat, colorful, and presentation ready!

Below are the classroom Dream Poster Expectations that are posted for students to view while they work!

After everyone has designed their Dream Posters I have everyone to present their speeches/posters and then hang them in the designated area of my classroom! I love for the posters to be visible for the students all school year long so they have them  to view as a reminder to be encouraged and keep chasing their dreams when they are having a rough day! I also think it’s important for students to have a part in decorating the classroom so they take pride in it as well as the systems and structures of the classroom.

Try this out and tell me what you think! 💙💙💙
